A patient identified as the first reported case of Ebola in the U.S. has died in a Dallas hospital. Thomas Eric Duncan was a Liberian who traveled from Liberia to Texas in late September. Two health care workers who treated Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital later tested positive for the disease, but were successfully treated. The World Health Organization now reports the outbreak has resulted in over 4,900 deaths as of October 23rd.
The Centers for Disease Control has published a CDC Interim Guidance for EMS Systems. CDC has also released an EMS Checklist for Ebola Preparedness to assist EMS providers prepare their staff.
